Why do you think the work you do is important?
Most people don’t think about paving unless there’s a problem—like a pothole or a crumbling driveway. But roads and paved surfaces are essential. They keep our towns connected, businesses running, and people safe. Without well-paved roads, transportation would be chaotic, and communities wouldn’t function as smoothly. What we do might go unnoticed when it’s done right, but that’s the goal.
What makes asphalt paving meaningful to you?
For me, it’s about creating something that lasts. When you pave a road or a parking lot, you’re building something people use every day. There’s a sense of pride in knowing your work has a direct impact on the community. Plus, asphalt paving is a mix of science and skill—planning, precision, and a lot of teamwork. What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
The most satisfying part is seeing a finished project and knowing it will last for years. Whether it’s a driveway for a family home or a busy road, I love seeing how something we built makes people’s lives easier and better. It’s also rewarding when customers tell us they’re thrilled with the work. That feedback means everything.
What’s a common misconception people have about your work?
A lot of people think paving is simple, like just laying down asphalt and calling it a day. But there’s so much more to it. You have to plan for drainage, check the soil quality, and make sure the surface is perfectly prepped. Even the temperature of the asphalt matters. Every step has to be right, or it won’t last.
How do you handle challenges on the job?
Challenges are part of every project. Whether it’s weather delays, unexpected site conditions, or equipment issues, we stay flexible and find solutions. My team is great at thinking on their feet. It’s all about being prepared, staying calm, and keeping the customer informed. When we solve a tough problem, it makes the final result even more rewarding.
