Raymond Wolk: Paving the way for Business

Raymond Wolk is the founder and owner of County Asphalt and Trucking LLC, a highly regarded paving company based in Davisburg, Michigan.

A third-generation asphalt paver, Raymond began his career at the age of 13, working alongside his father and learning the trade from the ground up. These early experiences instilled a strong work ethic and a passion for quality that continue to define his career.

In 2005, at just 23 years old, Raymond launched County Asphalt and Trucking. Under his leadership, the company has earned a reputation for excellence, specializing in durable, long-lasting paving solutions for residential, commercial, and public projects. Raymond is known for his attention to detail and his unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. His philosophy is simple: every job must meet the highest standards.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Raymond is deeply dedicated to his community. He volunteers at local shelters, supports charitable causes, and takes pride in making a positive impact on those around him. His values of integrity, generosity, and perseverance are reflected in both his work and his community efforts.

In his free time, Raymond enjoys racing and coin collecting, hobbies that reflect his appreciation for precision and focus. With nearly two decades of experience, Raymond continues to lead County Asphalt with the same passion and dedication that inspired him as a young worker. His work is not just about building roads—it’s about building trust, relationships, and a lasting legacy.

Why do you think the work you do is important?

Most people don’t think about paving unless there’s a problem—like a pothole or a crumbling driveway. But roads and paved surfaces are essential. They keep our towns connected, businesses running, and people safe. Without well-paved roads, transportation would be chaotic, and communities wouldn’t function as smoothly. What we do might go unnoticed when it’s done right, but that’s the goal.

What makes asphalt paving meaningful to you?

For me, it’s about creating something that lasts. When you pave a road or a parking lot, you’re building something people use every day. There’s a sense of pride in knowing your work has a direct impact on the community. Plus, asphalt paving is a mix of science and skill—planning, precision, and a lot of teamwork. It’s a challenge, and I love that.

How does your work benefit the community?

Well-paved roads improve safety, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and even boost property values. It’s not just about laying asphalt—it’s about making life better for people. We also focus on using sustainable practices, like recycling old asphalt, which is better for the environment and saves resources.

What motivates you to keep doing this work?

Seeing the results of what we’ve built keeps me motivated. When I drive past a road or a project we’ve completed, I know it’s making a difference. It’s also about the relationships—with customers, my team, and the community. At the end of the day, this work is about more than asphalt—it’s about people.

What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

The most satisfying part is seeing a finished project and knowing it will last for years. Whether it’s a driveway for a family home or a busy road, I love seeing how something we built makes people’s lives easier and better. It’s also rewarding when customers tell us they’re thrilled with the work. That feedback means everything.

What’s a common misconception people have about your work?

A lot of people think paving is simple, like just laying down asphalt and calling it a day. But there’s so much more to it. You have to plan for drainage, check the soil quality, and make sure the surface is perfectly prepped. Even the temperature of the asphalt matters. Every step has to be right, or it won’t last.

How do you handle challenges on the job?

Challenges are part of every project. Whether it’s weather delays, unexpected site conditions, or equipment issues, we stay flexible and find solutions. My team is great at thinking on their feet. It’s all about being prepared, staying calm, and keeping the customer informed. When we solve a tough problem, it makes the final result even more rewarding.
